A new 1.5V set of batteries provides 1-3 hours of operating time for your Philips Avent single electric breast pump. Rechargeable 1.2V batteries will lose capacity over time and may cause a decrease in operating time.
If you plug the breast pump's adapter into the mains but also have batteries in the battery housing of the motor unit, the mains power supply will be used. The batteries cannot be charged in the unit.
